is the 2018 Toyota Corolla SE with the 6 speed manual. Luxury. Handling. Sport. Comfort. All wrapped together in the most elegant package imaginable.
You guys can keep your Maseratis, your BMWs, Bentleys, Mercedes. This is much more luxurious, refined, and sporty for a fraction of the cost. There’s no use for automakers to make cars anymore since nothing will ever amount to the perfection that is the 2018 Corolla SE.
Anyone who disagrees will have their Jalopnik Gold membership revoked and tossed into a fiery pit lined with sharp spikes lined with boiling oil and an eternal supply of gasoline. All burned flesh will be replenished for maximum misery and suffering.

Good lord I’m not worthy. This is too opulent and elegant for me.
The blue seat piping reminds my Passat-driving pleb ass that I’ll never be good enough for a Corolla.

Ya know, if they put a fancy pants motor in there and stiffened the chassis a bit it wouldn’t be half bade.

Meh, the worst a corolla enthusiast can do to me is audit my taxes or give me the wrong deductible on my home insurance.

Toyota’s marketing department should hire me. Hey, you guys listening?
![]() 02/23/2018 at 13:13 |

You know it’s a luxury car because there’s contrasting stitching on the seats, and regular stitching on the airbag cover.

A high price to pay, but I still cannot accept the Corolla being termed anything other than “loathsome”.

I’m not sure how that is pinnacle, when its application of the colour blue in the interior is just plain wrong, unlike this masterpiece.

Fake news, the Volvo S40 T5 is the pinnacle of compact car engineering. A I4 is to frugal and anemic to be elegant or classy and a V6 is too uncouth and space in-efficient. A turbocharged I5 is the most tasteful choice of powerplant for a compact car.

It’s ok to love shitty cars, trust me.
And a modern Corolla in any form is pinnacle shitty car.

I would daily drive that. And then give it to my kids when they turn 16 without hesitation.
![]() 02/23/2018 at 14:04 |
|
Has anyone actually driven one of these? I haven’t been in a Corolla in probably 15 or 20 years. It’s got be miles better than a Corolla from 1997, right? Right?
![]() 02/23/2018 at 14:14 |
|
I had a brand new one as a rental a couple years ago.
They’re pretty nice cars for what they are. Especially considering the playskool interior of my (now wife’s) old 1999 one.
![]() 02/23/2018 at 14:15 |
|
Knowing those cars your kids could then give it to their kids 30 years after that.
Cockroaches and Corollas. Those things do.not.die.

Is it true that there are no trim levels?
If you want to buy one you order it by length.
“ill have 3 meters of corolla please”
![]() 02/23/2018 at 14:44 |
|
Basically this. Also, 6 speed manual and a mechanical handbrake. I’m sure one could have some fun driving that car.
Slow car fast,
right?

There’s a close-to-new manual Corolla on my college campus and I’m just sort of wondering what kind of person buys that specific car.
![]() 02/23/2018 at 18:30 |
|
Why don’t you get it
![]() 02/23/2018 at 19:30 |
|
I bought two new Corollas with manual transmission, an ‘81 (75 HP!) and a ‘90. Between the two I got 470,000 miles out of them. I wanted a car that wouldn’t break and that would cost as little per mile as possible, and boy oh boy did I ever get that.
![]() 02/23/2018 at 19:38 |
|
But with a new Corolla, there’s no real benefit to getting the manual, right? It’s not gonna be any less bulletproof, the manual won’t make it any more fun, and the fuel efficiency benefits are practically none in a modern car.
![]() 02/24/2018 at 05:49 |

handling and sport?
NOPE!
not in a Toyota
![]() 02/24/2018 at 08:45 |

![]() 02/25/2018 at 12:19 |

No.
The best car I’ve driven was an mxdm yaris.
Its cheap and has Bluetooth audio. Which is more than I can say of many cars.

Hot take: For family duty, I’d have an Accord 2.0T with the manual. It’s a step up in price, but a much more pleasant car to be in and look at.
